CIG and New America Release Two Case Studies Demonstrating Impact Hubs as a Model for Collaboration
May 8, 2024

SINGAPORE, 8 May 2024 – The Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG) and New America are excited to announce the release of two comprehensive case studies today, spotlighting initiatives by Singapore’s Alliances for Action(AfA) and the work of Belgium-based APOPO. These case studies mark the inauguration of a series of in-depth examinations designed to shed light on the structures and methodologies employed by organisations committed to addressing specific pressing societal challenges.
At the heart of these case studies lies a fundamental connection to the Impact Hub model - a paradigm that emphasises collaborative problem-solving by bringing together diverse partners from the public, private, and civic sectors. Impact Hubs serve as crucibles for innovation, harnessing the collective expertise, resources, and networks of stakeholders to implement tangible solutions and measure their impact with precision. As such, the two case studies are more than just narratives; they are exemplars of how to operationalise an Impact Hub.
The AfA case study illustrates how government institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society can come together to co-create solutions to deal with issues spanning from supporting lower-wage workers to tackling online harms. From inception to implementation, readers gain a comprehensive understanding of how AfAs are structured and function to drive change.

In parallel, the APOPO case study illuminates the innovative strategies kickstarted by individuals to address global issues such as landmine detection and tuberculosis detection using trained rats. Through a detailed examination of APOPO's operational model, readers gain insights into how technological innovation, partnerships, and community engagement converge to save lives and promote social good.

With several Impact Hubs already making a significant difference at global, national, and local levels, these case studies stand as a testament to the transformative potential of collaborative action. By showcasing the inner workings of these initiatives, CIG and New America aim to offer actionable insights and practical steps for individuals, organisations, and government institutions interested in adopting or adapting these frameworks for their impact-driven projects.
