Chandler Good Government Index

Chandler Good
Government Index

Good government is a deciding factor in whether nations succeed.
The Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI) stems from our belief that good national governance and national prosperity are deeply connected.
The relationship between both is characterized by three principles:
Principle 1
Government capabilities
matter, and governments need to invest time and effort into enhancing these capabilities.
Principle 2
Effective governments create opportunities for citizens to thrive, building the foundation of national development and prosperity.
Principle 3
Good governance leads to better outcomes and increased public trust; high levels of public trust make it easier for governments to do their work.

Governments play critical and unique roles in all countries. Hence, it is essential that we have good ways to measure the quality of national governance.

The CGGI is an annual Index, measuring the capabilities and effectiveness of 113 governments around the world based on 35 unique indicators. It is the most comprehensive Index of its kind in the world.

Built by government practitioners, for government practitioners, the CGGI distils practical tradecraft and insights from a range of government leaders and experts around the world. It is designed to be a practical tool to help governments understand and benchmark their capabilities and performance, and to identify opportunities for progress.
